A Sports-Themed Dinner

The colleagues were talking about the bonus dinner gathering. The date was set next Friday 5 Apr. And we were talking about themes! LOL!

I was really laughing my head off when Bo and Yeo went on to talk about having ‘costume’ dinner, i.e. everyone dressed up as a sportsman, doing their usual sports. It does sound do-able because all will be in sports wear right? But the idea blew into having to bring the equipment to look the part and also a 1 min talent show to showcase the sports!!!!! WAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! I can’t help it but it is just so funny just by imagining it!

I really hope this can materialise cos’ it will be so much fun! We have not done this kinda crazy stuff since school days so I hope the rest of the gang is game!

An Adventurous Night

I cannot ever imagine there is a COCKROACH in my walk–in and ON my clothes... and BIG & BROWN and STARING at me. I can vividly remember its eyes and roaming feelers, landing so comfortably on my clothes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEE!!! Before I could look at which clothes it was on, I ran out of the room and alerted my hubby.

BUT when he was in there, the roach vanished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was the worst. I could not bear the thought of being in the same house with a ROACH. What if it flew? What if it crawled to baby’s room? What if it laid eggs in the walk in? What if….

GROSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE THIS CREATURE! OK HATE may not be that appropriate, it’s more like FEARFUL. I tried ONCE to face it. With Baygone in one hand, and some other weapon in another, stood in front of the GROSS ROACH but ended up running away.

I don’t know what’s with me to be that scared of this little thing. Anyway, I was very disappointed that hubby could not find it and I just went to tuck Evans to sleep, feeling down and unsettled. Then minutes later, I could hear some hitting and banging outside the room. I WAS SUDDENLY HOPEFUL. There was more banging and hitting and flipping, I think. I was “enjoying” it because DAMN the STUPID ROACH! After that. hubby opened the baby room’s door and said cooly, “I killed it…” YAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So thankful and grateful for him lor! WE ARE SAVED! This prompted me to keep my Walk-in more tidy and neat. And YOU STUPID COCKROACH STAY AWAY FROM US!!!!!! @()$&@*$^@*($^@(&$^@&*#%!*%^^!@(!*&#$

Not just this cockroach adventure. Next chapter…. Evans, again, tossed and turned for a while before he actually fell asleep at 12 plus midnight like the night before. I thought ok, maybe he would sleep well throughout like the night before. But minutes after, when he tossed to one corner of the mattress, he started crying angrily, almost like something has bitten him or what. He tugged his PJ and he cried and cried and tears bursting. I got worried a while. Somehow the cockroach episode was still fresh in my mind so I was thinking was he bitten by some insect at the corner of the mattress? Did he hurt himself or what? Cos he was almost inconsolable until, I distracted him using Vicks Vapour, which he liked and called it “shii shii shii” which means “stinging” or 辣。I told him I would apply “shii shii shii”  on him. He quieted down and sat on the mattress waiting for me to apply it. So poor thing but he looked so cute waiting. I also fed him some water to calm him, wiped his tears then applied Vicks. Then he obediently laid on his tummy and went back to sleep.

Evans' favourite shii shii shii

I am still wondering what happened. It surely did not sound like a nightmare but I hope it was so that he could just get over it. Sigh.

My sleep was kind of interrupted too because after all these, I was too “excited” so was not able to fall back to sleep. Even when I fell asleep, I kept having weird dreams (since 2 days ago). Then I kept waking to pee… if not, the cough would irritate me. I could cough till tears flow… terrible feeling.

Longing for a good sleep.

A Super Short Stroll

As ‘promised’, I wanted to bring Evans for a stroll yesterday evening but the moment we stepped into the lift, I heard heavy rain fall. Initially I told Evans it was raining, so we could not go out but I knew that he would not be satisfied so we took the lift down anyway.

Striding his way to the lift
Very patient, waiting for the lift

Please hold on to the handrail

Evans always chooses the new lift. And he will wait very patiently for the lift to arrive. This time when he entered the lift, he held on to the handrail, which was quite funny because there was no need to, right. He looked as though he knew what he was doing. Cutie!
Rainy night

I was showing Evans, “look, rain rain! So bb cannot go out cos we will get wet.” He kept looking and expressed “Orhhh!” like “oh, it’s raining.” I could have taken him for a stroll underneath the block but the rain was getting too heavy and he was in sleeveless. So I thought we should go up. Luckily I did not need to spend much time to convince him to take the lift back up. Super short “stroll” but the boy was happy to be able to take the lift!

Convinced and satisfied

A New sharOn

Was greeted by a brand new Intranet in office today. Happy, as I played a part in the revamp.

SHARON, our office intranet has changed her looks and organisation. To me, she surely looks more vibrant now but one setback is I find the scrolling a bit lagged, it is not as smooth as before. I hope this is only an interim problem because of the mass access and server (?) Anyway I do not have much faith in our IT support.

In this new sharOn, from the homepage I will get to see my network at one glance. So it is kind of funny to see the photos of other officers. And their photos were taken like yearssss ago. I hope this will motivate them to change the photo since they will appear in other people’s page.

It did nudge me to change mine from how I looked 12 years ago to my present self.

LOL, I am not saying it’s a better photo now but at least it is more “relevant”.

Evans Doesn't Want to Sleep!

Yesterday it was a pleasant surprise to see Justine at my mom’s place. She thought of dropping by to play with Evans. She also took dinner with us because she missed my mom’s cooking. She could still recall all those soups which my mom always cooked! I told her to visit us more often for dinners since we are usually home.

Anyway, yesterday, mama told me Evans was very tired in the morning. He woke up for milk but shortly after, he requested to go back to sleep. Initially he wanted to sleep on the mattress and refused to go to the “sarong” (which we did not know why). After some coaxing, my papa rocked him to sleep in the “sarong”. Evans must be too tired from the day before (Sunday) which he only took about an hour’s nap! Notty!

Last night, I was patting him to sleep. I expected him to fall asleep pretty soon as he woke up at 6pm earlier. But NO! To my “horror”, he was tossing and turning. A few moments, he did not move but when his anklet started ringing, I knew he was still awake. That lasted for more than an hour. I wasn’t tired but I started to wonder how long was this going to take because he would need to wake up early tomorrow with me and hubby having to go to work!

At one point, he sat up and signalled he wanted to go out but I gave a firm “NO!” then tried to pat him again and hummed some songs (which were terribly out of tune cos of the bad voice). Then he tried his luck to get up again, then I said “No Evans, 要睡觉!每个人都睡了!” Then he went back to ‘sleep’. I must say he was still considered a good boy as he did not wail his way out and still listened to me. I hope tonight will be easier. Maybe I should bring him out for a stroll later to ‘tire’ him out. LOL!

Cooking for Sunday Lunch

As part of my New Year Resolution, I want to prepare a home-cooked meal every week. But sometimes before I realised it, it's the weekend already and I did not plan for it. Anyway, I will continue to try and be better at it.

So yesterday lunch was simple 2 dishes with rice:

Minced Meat Patties
(Makes 4 patties)
  • minced meat ($2.80 worth cos I can't remember the grams)
  • 1 onion (small dice)
  • 1/2 carrot (small dice)
  • Marination:
  • Soya Sauce
  • Huadiao Wine
  • Sesame Oil
  • Cornflour
  1. Mix the ingredients
  2. Marinate the ingredients (put in the fridge overnight)
  3. Steam for 20 min
  4. Serve (can garnish with mushrooms)
Minced Meat Patties

Hubby and I thought the patties were too bland though they let out nice fragrance of the seasoning. I think I did not put enough soya sauce to make it savoury enough because I thought it was safer to have them bland so that we could salvage them later by adding more soya sauce. But then again, for the marination, I did not have any measurement because anything which my mom taught me was "aga aga", means just use my gut feeling. So if next time I prepare this again, I will have to trial and error.

Mushroom Omelette
(Makes 2 omelettes)
  • 4 eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 can of sliced mushrooms
  • butter
  1. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt
  2. Heat the wok, add butter
  3. Pour in egg mixture
  4. Scatter mushrooms on the omelette
  5. Heat until omelette turns golden yellow
  6. Serve

Mushrooms Omelette

Loving this omelettes.. considered a pass!

The Garden Slug

Yesterday morning I suggested hubby bring us to The Garden Slug again. We went there once before and I like its ambience, a small simple cafe with peaceful environment. It's the kind of cafe which I thought I would own one day... well, not exactly like that but the feel is there.

Evans, what attracted you?

This Slug?

Learning from prior experience, we learnt not to order the same type of breakfast for both of us. That time he ordered the All Day Big Breakfast and me, a smaller version of his. So the food was kind of similar and we did not get have much of a variety. So this time, again he ordered the All Day Big Breakfast and me, I chose the other Chef's Recommendation --> Smoked Salmon Scrambled Egg. We love that our breakfast came with sunflower seeds toasts. Very crunchy and crispy. Tasted yummy just by itself. Little boy seemed to like it too. But weirdly, we noticed that other tables did not finish the toasts. Some did not even touch them. And they were the caucasians. So it made us wonder did they have different taste from us? Or they were just avoiding carbo? We just thought it was a waste to leave the breads untouched. They should have just informed the waitress to reduce waste.

The boy went crazy over the "Exit" signs
